HFCA SCHOOL GARDEN INAUGURAL HARVEST
Posted on 11/19/2019
HFCA SCHOOL GARDEN INAUGURAL HARVESTOn Monday, 11/18, our 3rd graders harvested their inaugural crop of radishes from our HFCA School Garden.

The students all had a chance to pull their beautiful radishes out of the soil and admire and compare them.  Mrs. Kaono washed and prepared the radishes, and shared them with the students.  The students also admired the beautiful sunflowers that bloomed over the weekend.

The HFCA School Garden was built and planted at our big Garden Party just two months ago, with the help of a $1,000 grant from the Augustine Educational Foundation.

The 3rd and 4th grade students planted radishes, carrots, rainbow carrots, tomatoes, wildflowers and sunflowers from seeds.
They also planted an herb garden with Italian parsley, Thai basil, rosemary, sage, Italian basil, oregano, mint and spearmint.

Free fresh-cut herbs were offered to all parents that attended the 11/19 PTG monthly meeting.  The school cafeteria regularly uses a variety of herbs from the School Garden in their school lunches.
