UPDATE!!!

April 1, 2020

To: Holy Family Catholic Academy & ELC families

From:     Rev. Rheo Ofalsa, Pastor, Allen Akiona, Director of ELC, and Celeste Akiu, Principal

RE: Update as of March 27, 2020

Due to our social responsibility, and in solidarity with our state leaders, the Diocese announced that all Hawaii parochial schools will extend the postponement of in-person classes through Thursday, April 30, 2020. For Holy Family Catholic Academy and ELC, this means that distance learning will continue through that date. All school events scheduled for the month of April are canceled.

Our Holy Family ELC program is committed to continuing service amid this difficult and uncertain time that is happening all around us.  We will be providing Distance Learning and in-person instructions via the internet during the next month. Students, parents, and teachers will collaborate to ensure that education proceeds.

Distance Learning for HFCA students is being implemented and we are so proud to work alongside our teachers who have stepped up to embrace this new method of teaching in such a short time. Thank you for your patience and support as our teachers introduce new programs to support our students in their new learning environments. Moving forward, please make note of the following dates which are non-teaching days for teachers:

~ April 9, 10, and 13 are Holy holidays

It’s hard to believe that we were all at school together only 14 days ago. Although our recent days have been filled with evolving changes and our upcoming days are uncertain, let us all embrace our faith and know that our Lord is in our midst to guide us as we move forward. You are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

With much ALOHA,

Hello HFCA Families,

It's wonderful to see a blue sky today! I hope you are doing well. I'd like to share with you that the Diocese has approved the following:

Hawaii Catholic Schools, which includes HFCA, will remain closed through Easter break. Therefore, we are scheduled to return to school on Tuesday, April 14.

HFCA remains committed to supporting our students with the continuity of their learning as we move forward during our extended school closure. Teachers will be emailing lessons to parent emails for grades K-4 and posting lessons on Google Classroom for grades 5-8. Teachers in all content areas, which include our specials classes, are responsible for sending lessons either weekly or daily, depending on the type of assignment.

I will continue to send updates to you as new information comes to my attention. Rest assured that I will most definitely share our plans for the opening of school when that day arrives. I was at the school yesterday and sat in the courtyard taking a moment to reflect on what we are all experiencing. I sat imagining the day when our students will be back on campus with friends, teachers, and staff. I look forward to seeing their smiles and hearing their laugher. And I know that day will come!

May the Lord be with you today and each day as we move forward together.

With much aloha,

Celeste
